Who are we?

Vermicycle is an organic waste recycling company specialising in handling household food waste, animal manures and other organic materials, using worms. Through natural and renewable processes we recover resources, assist in sequestering carbon emissions into soil and produce products that are beneficial to the environment. There is no waste from our processes, no smell, no flies nor any of the other vermin that would normally be associate with treating these materials. We take bio security very seriously and are set up for sterilization and eliminating harmful viruses, pathogens, or spores.

We have over 25 years experience researching and developing our processes which have been touted as best practice by various government agencies. The last 18 months we have incorporated the collection of all varieties of food wastes from Coles and Woolworths stores on the south side of Brisbane, along with animal wastes and other organic materials.

We can expand our processing capacity very quickly if there is a need for our services.

Vermicycle Operations

Vermicycle is first and foremost a keen recycler of organic – once living, carbon based – wastes. We collect and receive various manures, grasses, food wastes, cardboard, paper pulp, paunch, biosolids, cotton wastes, animal feeds, grains, food processing wastes and more. We collect and receive these repurposed assets for a fee or by arrangement.

Next, Vermicycle has skilled worm ‘herd’ wranglers who encourage billions of worms and microbes to convert these unwanted wastes into superb, premium worm castings – topsoil for balcony planter boxes to the largest broadacre farming concerns and everyone in between. We craft liquid castings, extracts and teas, for unbelievable (but true) rapid development of terrible to great soils, loaded with all the bacteria, fungi and friends that your soil needs to thrive and rebuild.

Vermicycle have been seriously ‘playing’ with worms and their castings since the early 1990’s and were instrumental in mentoring many other starters here and overseas.

We had some reasonably sized experimental beds for some years on the Gold Coast and lately have set up, and full-time operated, other commercially sized beds of our own.

Our castings are matured by feeding our worm beds twice a week for 18 months. This allows the worms to totally work our selected food-stocks, to deliver a premium product. The texture of the end product is very fine particles and handles like play-dough. We do not need to screen, grind or ‘Doctor’ our castings.

Most other castings producers usually rely on one to three organics sources as worm feed. Because we feed such a diverse range of feed-stock to our worms, we potentially have the greatest diversity, possible to be orchestrated, of beneficial microbes present in our worm castings.

Thus, we are also able to optimise the diversity of mineralised, plant-available nutrients and minerals present, and available from them. The water-holding capacity of our worm castings is second-to-non, and this outstanding topsoil adds real substance and value to your soil.
